Australian Rules Football (AFL)
The very first game Aussie football was played on August 7th 1858 between Scotch College and Melbourne Grammer. The code is the oldest recognised football association or league with the first two footy clubs in the world being Melbourne and Geelong. This fast, action-packed and sometimes very spectacular game is now spreading worldwide.
"How's That?" Cricket is a game that Australians love to play and watch. Whether is is on a proper oval designed specially for the game, in the backyard or down the beach, you will often see the bat, ball and stumps (the three sticks called that form the wicket or target) and soon there will be screams and giggles of delight from everyone.
Golf and tourism go hand in hand in Australia. We can boast some of the best golf courses in the world.
Lawn Bowls has always been a very popular sport in Australia especially in rural towns. There is usually a lawn bowls club in every city and town in Australia.
Australian LOVE tennis, we have produced more than a few world champions. Most country towns have free tennis courts available, mostly concrete or bitumen, but larger towns have artificial turf and even lawn teenis courts for hire at reasonable rates.
Played by many Australian boys and young men mostly in New South Wales and Queensland though nowadays is also played by women as well. The sport has a great fan following. There are simpler versions like "touch footy" and "tag footy" based on the original game.
The form of rugby more played as a world sport and Australia has a fair representation performong well at the World Cup and other inter-country rivalries.
Cycling has always been popular in the land downunder with Australian cyclists always performing well at the Olympic Games over the past century. However the sport has been taken to a new level of excitement with Cadel Evans following decades of good performances by Australians at the Tout de France by winning the event in 2011.

Australia is a very diverse countryside; there are deserts, rain forests, tropical regions, dry mountain ranges that are thousands and thousands of years old, sand dunes and salt flats. There are walking tracks all over the country with guide maps to help the trekker find their way.
